ihop glass vase

I visited a glassblowing atelier in Småland that has been crafting glassworks for over 120 years, spanning many generations. The way the craftsmen manipulated the softened glass, shaping it with their breath, was almost mystical, akin to a religious ritual. Inspired by this scene, I sought to incorporate the very essence of this process into the final design of the vase.

"Ihop" is a Swedish word meaning "together." The vase consists of two distinct parts assembled as one. The base is a fixed form, created through precise molding, while the top is an organic form that emerges naturally through the glassblowing process. Each vase features a unique top, shaped by the glassblower's individual sensibilities. These two contrasting forms are joined together, visually enhancing and complementing each other.

Ihop's green color has both a refreshing vibrancy and a sense of solidity. Depending on the viewing angle and the sunlight's warmth, it reveals various shades of green. The gradation in the upper part of Ihop shifts with the thickness of the glass, adding to its dynamic character.
